Learn to Listen to your Children
The new generation children are smart and intelligent, they are obviously better than the old generation and can bring in a fresh perspective. I have noticed that many parents don’t really pay much attention to what their children are saying since they somehow have a notion set in their minds that the children remain in their own world. This is a big mistake committed by parents these days where they don’t pay attention to what their children are saying. Your grown up kids can be your best friends and support for life so please “learn to listen to them”.
Why is it important to listen ?
Children are very observant their eyes never miss a detail which others might ignore. Few days ago my grandson told me that an electric wire in the house is short and it might result in dangerous fire and when I actually went and saw it he was absolutely right the wire was near curtains and it could immediately catch fire. He saved the day and I learnt my lesson that everything children say is very important to listen. Remember “don’t just hear but Listen to them”.
What to ask them?
Always ask your children:
- How was their day?
- What did they do today?
- If there is something bothering them ?
- Is it something they particularly like? Once you develop this habit in children they will get used to of talking to you and sharing every small details. This might be helpful for you even to avert dangerous situations where children have noticed something unusual.Sometimes complex issues can be resolved just by “talking”, just like you resolve situations in your office or family just by “talking” same way if children don’t listen to you then the best solution to your problem is learn to “talk to them”.
